LCPL Jeremy Kane Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

06/14/2018 - LCpl Jeremy Kane Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony:
4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Mayor Cahn and Township Council invite you to join us for our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Jeremy Kane Playground. The event will be a re-dedication and reveal the park's new theme. In 2010, three months into his deployment in Afghanistan, 22-year-old USMC LCpl Jeremy Kane was killed when a suicide bomber attacked his unit in Helmand Province. Jeremy thought it was his duty, as an American, to serve his country. His father had been a Major in the US Army, and his grandfather had also been in the marines.

Flight 93

5:30 pm
By Tom McMillan In his book, Flight 93: The Story, The Aftermath and The Legacy of American Courage on 9/11, Tom McMillan offers the most complete account yet written about the hijacked United Airlines flight that crashed in Somerset County, Pa. on September 11, 2001. Based on interviews, oral histories, FBI documents FLIGHT 93 - THE AFTERMATH AND THE LEGACY and personal tours of the crash site, McMillan examines the lead-up to that horrific morning; the stories of the victims who were launched into the center of history; the passenger revolt that saved untold amounts of carnage on the ground and, most likely, the U.S. Capitol; the eyewitnesses and first responders who rushed to the crash scene; the impact on grieving family members; and the legacy the story leaves for future generations. McMillan, 61, has spent the past 22 years as vice president of communications for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, following an 18-year career as a newspaper reporter, columnist, and talk-show host., But he also is a lifelong history buff who serves on the Board of Trustees of Pittsburgh’s Heinz History Center, on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Flight 93, and on the marketing committee of the Gettysburg Foundation. In addition, he volunteers as a tour guide at the Thomas Espy GAR Post, which is named for one of his ancestors. McMillan recently wrote a book on the Civil War titled Gettysburg Rebels and has spoken at various Civil War Roundtables and historic sites. He and his wife, Colleen, live with their family in Kennedy Township, Pa. McMillan donates all of his author’s proceeds from Flight 93 to the Flight 93 National Memorial. The Flag Detail

06/23/2018 - 06/24/2018 - The Flag Detail: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
I am Jim Dillard, seven-year (at least) member of The Delaware Patriot Guard and a former member of A Heroes Welcome DE. I started an event to place flags on undecorated grave markers in both of Delaware's Veterans Cemeteries. I believe ALL Veterans graves should have flags. To date, we have placed approx 16,000 Flags on Both Cemeteries. This event is in two stages: June 23rd in Bear, DE, and 24th in Millsboro DE. Funds are donated and the cemetery sized Flags are placed by volunteers. Boy, Cub, Girl Scouts, and Brownies, Young Marines, all ages are welcome. It's a rain or shine event, usually takes less than an hour, and greatly improves the appearance of these beautiful facilities. If you have any questions, my email is on the flyer, and my cell is 302-438-2808. Thank you. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Jim Dillard

Independence Day GORUCK Challenge

06/29/2018 - 07/01/2018 - Independence Day Ruck: All Day
"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." — Benjamin Franklin. The Founding Fathers risked everything in the name of a dream called America. Theirs was a difficult, violent, and honorable calling–independence, that is. At the Independence Day GORUCK Challenge, expect a history lesson as we honor their sacrifice and enjoy the benefits of freedom by living life to its fullest under rucks, shoulder to shoulder with fellow patriots touring your town all the while singing Happy Birthday to America (amongst other festivities). And good news: Sam Adams is certain to make an appearance once you have earned your patch. Happy Birthday, America! Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Heavy Challenge 06.29.2018 Tough Challenge 06.30.2018 Light Challenge 07.01.2018 Rucking is the foundation of Special Forces training. Green Berets are well versed in shouldering heavy rucks through cities, mountains, jungles, and deserts, in war and in peace — alone when they must, together whenever possible. Rucking requires strength, endurance, and character — and builds it, too. Note: Hiking is rucking in the mountains, urban hiking is simply called rucking. Rucking can be done at any weight.
